People Link -- Creating a Global Neihborhood

Homestay

PeopleLink's homestay program provides each participant with total immersion in a culture and language different from his/her own.

A PeopleLink homestay is an opportunity for individuals and families to learn about a culture, language and customs different from their own. After the homestay program there remains an understanding of another's culture world view and customs. With this awareness comes an increased tolerance of the differences between peoples and a heightened appreciation of the similarities. Ultimately, the lasting friendships that are formed are perhaps the most valuable part of the experience.

PeopleLink, a Teacher Guide and Host Families will arrange and participate in the following:

  • Host Family Orientation
  • Welcome Party
  • English classes (three hours a day four days per week)
  • Two to three half-day activities per week depending on age of participants
  • One Full Day Excursion per week and
  • A minimum of one volunteer activity per stay
  • Farewell Party

Length of HomeStay: participants stay may be as brief as a few days or for an entire year while attending high school or university.

Student orientation: In most cases foreign participants receive an orientation prior to departure from their home country. In addition, PeopleLink provides all students with a student handbook, a mini orientation on arrival day and a more in-depth orientation the first day of class.

Group size: varies from a single individual to over 500. These larger groups are divided into sections of more manageable numbers.

Age of participants: since we consider all persons to be students of life we accept participants from elementary school age to senior citizens. However, most participants are junior high school through university aged.
